AN UNFORGETTABLE FESTIVAL
With a total attendance of 40 thousand people, the eighth edition of the Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires came to an end, after a two-week run featuring a rich and varied program with the best in international contemporary theater, dance and music as well as with the newest and best-rated in the Argentine performing arts scene. In total, the festival offered 48 performances (14 international and 34 national) at 31 venues, with rave reviews from the specialized press and an outstanding response from the public – tickets sold out for all performances requiring a paid admission ticket, and the audiences demonstrated their support through participation and critical enthusiasm.
FESTIVAL’S LAST DAY
The festival ends with a line-up of top quality shows – a constant throughout this two-week run, featuring the very best in theater from around the world. Today, Saturday, Javier Margulis’s La funeraria will be performed by Grupo de Teatro Independiente La Escalera at 5.30 p.m. at Teatro Sarmiento (Av. Sarmiento 2715, next to the Buenos Aires Zoo). And within the well-received new section of the Festival, “Proyectoclásico”, Emilio García Wehbi’s Hécuba o el gineceo canino (photo) – an adaptation from Eurípides’ Hecuba – will be staged at 9 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas (Av. Corrientes 2038).

The Jury composed of Gustavo Lesgart, Alejandro Ullúa and Alina Mazaferro selected the following works to be part of the Festival’s national schedule of events: Paraná Porá by Maruja Bustamante, El ardor by Marcelo D’Andrea, Un hueco by Juan Pablo Gómez, Cariño (photo) by Mayra Bonard, Los talentos by Agustín Mendilaharzu and Walter Jakob, Rosa mística by Ignacio Apolo, Ala de criados by Mauricio Kartun, Adónde van los muertos (lado B) by the group Krapp, El secuestro de Isabelita by Daniel Dalmaroni, Amar by Alejandro Catalán, Niños del limbo by Andrea Garrote, Rosa brillando by Juan Parodi, Hombre rebobinado by Margarita Bali, Cómo estar juntos by Diego Manso, and Anclar by Fabiana Capriotti,
WINNERS OF THE GERMAN ROZENMACHER AWARD FOR NEW DRAMA WRITING
The plays Madrijo, by Mariano Saba, and Eduardo, la pelopincho, by Magdalena De Santo won the first and second place, respectively, in the 7th German Rozenmacher Award for New Drama Writing, organized by the Buenos Aires International Festival (FIBA) and the Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas. The decision was announced by the jury composed of Susana Torres Molina, Mauricio Kartun and Matías Umpierrez.
WINNERS OF THE CONTEST OF THEATER PROJECTS
The six winners of the First Contests of Theatre Projects, organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Instituto Nacional del Teatro, have been announced. They are: La Patria fría, by Andrés Binetti and Mariano Saba; Esa no fue la intención. 2, by Joaquín Bonet; Leonardo trabajo práctico nº 1, by Gerardo Hochman; Pudor en animales de invierno, by Santiago Loza (photo), Campos de fuerza, by Luis Garay; and Pueden dejar lo que quieran, by Fernando Rubio. The six plays will be premiered during the 2011 edition of FIBA.
CONTEST OF THEATRE PROJECTS
The entry registration period for the “Contest of Theatre Projects”—calling for submission of unpublished works—closes today, Monday, March 28th. The contest is a joint initiative between the Festival and the Instituto Nacional de Teatro, which allows six selected plays to premiere during the 8th Buenos Aires International Festival. The Jury—comprised of Alberto Ligaluppi, Jorge Graciosi and Carlos Pacheco—will announce its decision on May 2nd.
ABOUT THE GERMAN ROZENMACHER'S PRIZE
Last Wednesday, March 23rd, the registration period ended for the 7th Germán Rozenmacher Award for New Drama Writing, sponsored by FIBA and the Centro Cultural “Ricardo Rojas” for Argentine or foreign playwrights under 36. The Jury—comprised of Mauricio Kartun, Susana Torres Molina and Matías Umpierrez—will announce its decision on May 15th, which will not be subject to appeal.
